What Happens If You Don’t Change Your Oil?Service CenterSchedule an Oil Change

If there isn’t enough oil in your engine — or if it’s dirty — it won’t be able to absorb the heat from the pistons and other components of the engine block. What does this mean for Wilsonville drivers? You can run into serious issues that’ll have lasting effects on your car’s performance if you don’t replace your oil. Learn more about the importance of regular Synthetic Motor Oil Replacement* with the experts at the Mercedes-Benz of Portland service center.

What’s the Function of Motor Oil?

While oil’s main job is to act as a lubricant, it also performs other important functions that benefit your vehicle:

  • Oil prevents engine overheating by absorbing heat.
  • Your vehicle’s pistons can weld themselves to the cylinders without the correct amount of clean oil.
  • Fresh oil keeps your vehicle running smoothly on Beaverton roads.
  • Dirt and debris can build up in the oil if you neglect Synthetic Motor Oil Replacement.

How Often is Oil Service Needed?

Synthetic Motor Oil Replacement is performed as a component of Mercedes-Benz Service A** and Service B** schedule. Service A is performed after 1 year or 10,000 miles (whichever comes first), while Service B is performed after 2 years or 20,000 miles (whichever comes first). Both of these service intervals include Synthetic Motor Oil Replacement, as well as other much-needed services for your vehicle.

How Do I Complete Oil Service Myself?

First, you’ll want to check your owner’s manual to ensure you choose the correct oil for your Mercedes-Benz vehicle. Next follow these steps:

  1. Elevate your car with jack stands or steel ramps.
  2. Find the oil drain plug on the bottom of the oil pan under the engine. Place an oil basin under the plug, then unscrew the plug and allow the old oil to drain (can take up to 15 minutes). Once all the oil is drained, you can replace the plug.
  3. Locate and remove your oil filter with an oil filter wrench. Know that a bit of extra oil will drain out when you remove the filter, so you’ll want to make sure you keep the basin underneath to catch it.
  4. Grab your new filter and rub a bit of oil around the rubber seal. This essential step ensures your filter is watertight.
  5. Place the new filter, then tighten by hand.
  6. You can remove the oil cap now that your old oil is drained and a new filter is in place. Pour in the specified amount of new oil (look in your owner’s manual if you’re unsure of the exact amount). Lastly, replace the oil cap.
  7. Before you close up shop, you’ll need to check your oil level by pulling out the dipstick. If the level is still low, add another ounce and check it again. You’re good to go once you get a proper oil level reading!
